This really wet American bald eagle was photographed in rural Osceola County near Kenansville, Florida. Just before this shot was taken he dove into the water for a fish, but came up empty. It seemed to me that he had gone deeper in the water, and stayed there longer, than most eagles I've seen. Indeed he struggled to get back into the air. In this shot he was about 40 feet from landing on a perch where he spent forty-five minutes to an hour drying himself out. Once dry, he took off effortlessly and headed back in the direction of his nest.
As a teenager and young adult I was always the guy with an InstaMatic camera and a pocket full of flash cubes at family outings and get togethers. As middle age took over and life became more complicated, with two kids, a mortgage, car and insurance payments, groceries and on and on, my interest in photography took the back seat. But as the mortgages got paid and the kids grew up and left home life slowed down a little bit. In 2008 I got my first DSLR and started teaching myself how to use it. The more I learned the more enthusiastic I became. Now retired, I spend most of my free time taking shots and editing them. I've gravitated towards Landscape, Wildlife and Nature Macro photography, but anything is fair game! I've enjoyed...
